Hawaii Declared Federal Disaster for Kona-Low Floods.  The disaster declaration number is DR-4909-HI.  Apply for FEMA Assistance at https://www.fema.gov/disaster/4909.

Updated 5/12/26: This news release has been updated to change the Federal filing and payment deadlines from July 8, 2026, to Aug. 20, 2026.  (Previously:  Federal Tax Deadlines Extended to July 8, 2026.)  Residents and owners of businesses in the federally declared Hawaiʻi severe storms disaster area, which includes the counties of Hawaiʻi, Honolulu, Kauaʻi and Maui, now have until August 20, 2026, to file federal tax returns and make tax payments that were originally due on or after March 10, 2026.  The IRS will automatically identify and apply relief for taxpayers in the declared disaster area. Updated 6/26/2026:  Hawaii State Tax Deadlines Extended to August 20, 2026 (Previously July 20, 2026).  Individual and business taxpayers are provided an extension of time to file and pay income taxes (GE tax not included).  Affected taxpayers may request a waiver of late file and/or late pay penalties and interest by completing and filing Form L-115, Tax Relief Request for State Declared Disasters. The Department will accept Form L-115 until August 20, 2026, but taxpayers are urged to file their request as soon as possible. More at https://files.hawaii.gov/tax/news/announce/ann26-04.pdf

Copies of Transcripts and Tax Returns Free.  The IRS will waive the usual fees for requests for copies of previously filed tax returns for affected taxpayers. Taxpayers should put “Hawaii, Severe Storms”, in bold letters at the top of Form 4506, Request for Copy of Tax Return PDF, or Form 4506-T, Request for Transcript of Tax Return, as appropriate PDF, and submit it to the IRS.
